mixed media project

For my mixed media project I created original art. I used some inspiration from Pinterest by looking at visualizing journals  and I had some ideas, i struggled a lot in this project because no matter how many projects I looked at getting the concept wasnt clicking for me. In my final project I had no clue what I was doing I just found buildings and had a lot of interesting things within the buildings so I started with s building concept and it turned into buildings and jungle with mountains.

In my project I took risks. The biggest risk I took was not knowing how to do the project. I had the ideas but everytime I tried they didn't turn out right. I have never worked with mixed media as a project so that was hard. The different ideas in my head was hard because I couldn't put in on paper. I tried to use different materials such as branches and leaves for my first idea of nature but that did not turn out well. With my final I didn't plan on using it for my final. I started using buildings then someone told me I should use a person so Incopperated a person painting a line over the city line.

I developed art making skills throughout my project. In art one my favorite media was Tissue paper, I love how it layers and you can use it as a base or to cover things. As my base of my project I used black tissue paper to make a dark background. I used pictures from magazines and ripped them up and somehow tried to put them together and make them flow. In the end I was happy with out it turned out. I used gesso to lighten certain parts if I felt it was too bold or to dark.

close-up drawing

I took risks and my close-up project.  I didn't really know what I was doing. I just had a lot of colors and had an idea and started.  I had an inspiration for the picture but it was still hard. I wasn't sure how to make the shapes of the thorns but I made it look more balenced by using different sized and having different shades, and using different positions.

I made original art by using my imagination when it came to the thorns. I liked how blue and green complemented eachother so I wanted to do blue thorns and added different shades and hues which made the thorns have different texture adding a visual appeal. There were darker parts towards the base which was the shadow

how I developed my art making skill?  I had to make sure each thorn didn't look like it was going the same way or that each thorn was the same, I had to had a shadow on them. and on the branch I had to add different colors and high lights in the middle and darker parts closer to the thorns. in the thorn it was lighter and darker towards the base.

Clay Project

In my clay project I developed are making skills. this project was hard for me because not only did I have to make the container I had to make the fries and the Ketcup packet on the plate. I was very surprised of my outcome, I didn't think I could make all of that by just clay. It took me a lot of time and effort. From Art one I made a pinch pot in art two I made a whole meal which made me very proud. The container was hard adding value to the sides, The french fries were also hard making them look realistic, in the Ketcup packet was hard with all of the detail.

Also in my clay project I took a lot of risks. I have not use clay that much so I was very scared when trying to use it. not only was the clay modeling part but also the painting was hard to make each piece look realistic. The plate was used with glaze which made it look more shiny,  in the french fries and McDonald's container we're just acrylic paint. The hardest part was the Ketcup packet with the detail because I try to make it look realistic with the highlights. I had to add lowlights where the Ketcup packet folded and had creases.

in my clay project I solved problems. my original idea was just to start off with the french fries in the box. But then it looked really plain so I had to add Ketcup and  a plate. Each fry was very difficult which caused me to solve problems, I couldn't make them all look the same so I had to add different low lights and highlights to each fry and different colors and values.at first my container looked really plane so I had to make a low lights to make it look more realistic but I was really scared to add darker parts where the shading was because I didn't think it would turn out okay.

Candy blog

Working on my Peppermint drawing I found it much harder then others. I did not like working with chalk at all. You can tell every little mistake I made. When trying to brush off the dust it got all over the place and made it very messy. I was very disappointed with how my final turned out because my sketch was so much better in my opinion, what made this one so hard was trying to make the wrapper look like it is on the candy.

With my Jolly Rancher Drawing it was also difficult but I enjoyed doing. Working with Oil Pastels was difficult because the oils wouldn't blend well together which made it very hard to look realistic. My jolly Rancher was blue which means I had to use a light blue and white for highlights and using the darker blue, red, and black in some spots to represent the darker parts because since the object was 3D it has high lights and the darker parts. I did like using the oil pastels better than chalk because the oil you could control it better  and it wasn't that messy.

The last project we did was the Dum Dum with Prisma colors. This was my favorite because with the pencils I could control it better and add value to the specific places. It was hard getting the   perspective with the wrapper and the lollipop, also the words on the wrapper  going toward the top and having value in the rapper even though the wrapper is just white, but including the creases.

Picasso blog

how I communicated through my work? I communicated through my work by using the style of Picasso. Making my message harder to look for and find because in his artwork it took time to realize what the message was. In my artwork the message is we're all living in the universe just trying to figure it out like a puzzle. Although this piece doesn't look very hard, and there isn't much detail it was hard trying to figure out the message and the idea. Also relating it to Picassos artwork. In his artwork you really had to look for the message and it wasn't just  given to you. My artwork may just look like a lot of circles and lines but when you take the time to look at it there's a message.
I created original art!
In Picasso's art he used a lot of dark colors and then my painting I use a lot of vibrant colors. Picasso went there to time where his artwork was either in the blue stage or the rose stage was when he created paintings only with blue and with light reds. His two time periods was based on his mood where blue was depression. Most of his blue paintings were sad.  My art had no specific mood. In his famous our work called teacups it was i'm clear the message where you had a really take the depth of the picture and find it. although my message is not directly in the paining and has a story. In an art piece by Picasso he has two bold stripes representing a border so I incorporated his artwork of the borders into mine.
I took risks!
I took a lot of risks and this painting. I now only did two sketches I tried a lot of different ideas, with paint and sharpie. My sketches don't really look like my final. I gave up in my sketches and just try to a different thing for my final. In the end I didn't go based off my sketches or have a plan I just went with the flow. painting was the hardest part because I had to make sure I incorporated by painting with the borders. The color choice was also hard and knowing where to place the colors. I ended up becoming happy with this piece, I like tower used Picassos our sound to make my own art.

Art Exam

1. How does the comparison of the two drawings show how you have grown as an artist durring this class? Explain how this work shows the development of your art making skills.
Over time you can see how the hand drawings got a lot better. In the beginning you can tell I didn't know how to use proportion. In my first letter L you can tell how my fingers were to skinny for my hand. In the first hand I you can also see how I only focused on the hand, not the wrist. In my hand I redrew I focused on the hand, but the wrist and background as well. In both drawings I used value. You can tell in the second hand I took my time and used the value carefully. Also the first hand I drew doesn't look realistic, in the second hand, you can tell it's my hand. You can tell just by the two hands how much I have progressed as an artist.
2. What was your most successful project this semester? Describe this project and your work, then explain why you picked it.
To me my most successful art project was the parody project. I took a painting from the artist ,Margritte. In his painting he had the bird flying in the day time sky. In my drawing I drew a bird flying in a sunset. This was my most successful project because I remember I took the most time on this one. I also used the most color and contrast on this project. I love Margritte's work and I was happy I could do a parody of his work. I also like how my bird in the clouds pop from the sunset. I enjoyed doing this project and I was very happy with the outcome.

3.Do over- What was a project this semester you would change if you could? Describe the project and your work, including what do you didn't like about the work, then explain what you could have done defferently to improve the result.
If I could I would re-do any of my projects it would be the space project. I was very unhappy with the results. I did this project in one day because I kept messing up the rough draft. If I could go back in time I would be more patient with my project and not rush. I didn't like how the planets in the background looked. They looked like it was rushed and not drawn neatly. If I could re-do it I would change the whole project.  I would draw the moon in oil pastel and add more value to the moon, and drawn the different stars instead of planets and have them all one color so my moon can pop out more. In the project there was a lot going in the background so the moon wasn't the main focus.
4. How did taking risks or challenging yourself make you a better artist this semester? Explain how with Examples from your work.
For one of out last projects we had to create a sculpture made out of clay. Thid was the most challenging for me because I have never arted with clay before. This was a very big risk for me because I was very scared to try and make a pinch pot. In the beginning it was hard but I figured out you have to make sure the clay is damp in order to art with. Being able to use clay made me a better artist. It showed me that paper isn't the only think you can art with. This project was very fun and made me open my eyes with the new materials you can art with.
5. What is the media that you enjoyed working with this semester? Write about what the media was, explain why you liked it and give examples of work you created with it.
My favorite media I worked with this semester was tissue paper. I loved how I can layer the paper and make it look different with all of the colors. The paper is used as a background for my art. It was very easy to work with. You just had to glue the paper down and layer it. This project was my favorite because I got to choose the colors I wanted to work with and put them how I wanted on my paper. For tissue paper you didn't have to use a specific color and you can use all the colors. You could put purple and yellow and brown and it would still look good, but if it was on paper it would mix and look bad. The tissue paper didn't take to long to long to dry either which made it easy to work with.

Artist Develop Art Making Skills
we had to make a pinch pot made out of clay. I have never used clay before in my art so this was something new. This project taught me a lot. I learned a lot of art techniques. I learned how to make sure the clay was just a little damp because it made the clay easier to art with. Clay art was something I have never been use to before. This project was very fun and I enjoyed it. I didn't think it would turn our good but I ended up liking my pinch pot a lot. I can see myself  using clay more for my art.

Artist Communicate Through Their Work
for my pot I wanted it to be used for something good. My brother and his girlfriend just grauated from ECU and they just moved back to Cary. I love the way purple and yellow contrast. so for my project I wanted to make something ECU that they could use. Since I had to make a pinch pot I turned that into a small bowl. I created my work personalized by painting it purple with yellow dots to represent ECU

Artist Take Risks
For my other project I wanted to create a scarf. I knew the best way for me to make a scarf was to finger knit. I finger knitted a scarf but the problem was it was very skinny. It was too skinny to be a scarf. So I wanted to make it look better. I got thicker yarn and weaved it in the scarf. Then that looked really ugly so instead of a scarf it turned out to be a very stylish doorknob cover. I used my creatitivity and made it the doorknob cover. Now doors can be opened with style.
